Recently, I made a graduation cake for my little brother's graduation party. I have made plenty of cupcakes and cakes in the past and always use homemade buttercream frosting. However, I have never made one this good. The consistency of this buttercream makes it extremely easy to spread and decorate. The flavor is the perfect amount of confectioner sugar and vanilla extract...it's not the sickening sweet you sometimes get when using confectioner sugar. I'd also have to add that this recipe is easy and hard to mess up...if you notice the recipe is a little dry in the end, just add a little more milk.
So if your looking for the perfect buttercream, I've found it for you....
You'll need:
1. 4 Cups of Confectioners Sugar
2. 1/2 Cup (1 Stick) Margarine
3. 1/2 Cup of Shortening (Crisco)
4. 1 Teaspoon of Vanilla Extract
5. 2 Tablespoons of Milk
Mix the shortening and margarine together until light and fluffy.
Slowly add the confectioners sugar, fold into mixture and blend together.
Add two tablespoons of milk.
Add one teaspoon of vanilla extract.
Enjoy the excess.
